For more than a decade Jeremy Blades, Chav’on Jolle and Beatnik Rubaine have been hosting Bermuda Day in London and twice in Liverpool.
In those early years, we had a number of Bermudian singers and rappers perform and with the help of Lockside’s two venues, we were able to host families at our London event, though it wasn’t the most ideal situation in terms of activities for children.
As the London event grew, ( at one point we had Lockside and the whole courtyard below Lockside, attracting at least 2 thousand people through out the entire 15hrs) people asked if we intended to do one up north. We were able to secure venues in Liverpool and set about exploring the idea of a Bermuda Day festival. The second event featured two stages, vendors, live entertainment and other festival elements. After this second event, we felt we were on a good course to achieve our goals. By this point we were going for 10+ years and felt we just needed a break and refocus. Then came covid, grinding everything to a halt. In hindsight, this period could have been be used to further promote and connect our uk creative community.
2024 & 2025 marked the return of our Bermuda Day UK `Celebrations, which has been well received and saw people come from far and wide to party with us.
On to 2026 and we expect another fantastic day in the heart of London’s Camden Town as we send Bermy good vibes cross the canal.
Over the past 2 years I have spoken to a number of Bermudian promoters here in the UK about an idea I have and that is to explore the possibilities of joining forces to do one big event each year.
I know there’s loads of hoops to jump through, but I believe if we approach it from a business level, we can achieve this.
Since 2024, Loquat Entertainment has been looking at returning up north to host a Bermuda Day, but the tasks are huge, so going forwards, we will be enlisting the knowledge and expertise of Bermudian professionals in specific fields. To give a clear idea of the tasks at hand, it would take at leat a whole year of organising in order to do it properly, if we are to do it at all.
So having said all that, the main question is, do we come together to to Bermuda Day on a grand scale and show off all our culture, heritage etc or a Bermudian festival, where the main focus is live music.
